Pre-requisites

This course is open to all beginner/advanced students who wish to deepen their knowledge and application of some of the highest teachings of yoga. Participants do not need to be yoga teachers. One is required to stay the whole course to get admission. If for any reason attending the full course is not possible, one may give valid reasons and based on that, a lesser stay may be possible.

Course Details

Immerse yourself in the basics of yoga. Ideal for those new to yoga or those who wish to make sure they are well aligned in their asana and pranayama practice, this course is a step-by-step complete introduction to the basics of yoga. The course offers extensive guided practice as well as theory studies and follows the five points of yoga created by Swami Vishnudevananda for health and inner peace:
1. proper exercise, 2. proper breathing, 3. proper relaxation, 4. proper diet, 5. positive thinking and meditation.
Aspirants of advanced levels are very welcome to attend the advanced hatha yoga classes provided at the same time, as part of the course.

Families with children are always welcome at the Yoga Sadhana Camp. Parents are expected to provide supervision for their children

  • The Sivananda asana sequence
  • Kriyas
  • Meditation techniques
  • Pranayama (breathing exercises)
  • The five points of yoga:        
  • Proper exercise.
  • Proper breathing.
  • Proper relaxation.
  • Proper diet.
  • Positive thinking and meditation.

Apart from the above mentioned Curriculum, Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham will conduct YSC with special emphasis on scriptures on Yoga and Vedanta. Daily regular satsangs and twice hatha yoga classes will always be available while the detailed study on a text on Yoga & Vedanta philosophy is being offered.

Lights out
• Attendance at all activities is mandatory. Changes in the program may occur from time to time as    per the prevailing conditions.
• There is one day off in a week. Students are required to attend morning and evening satsangs and to    complete their Seva duties. The rest of the day is free for their personal study and activities.

Course donations for non-Indian / non-resident Indian*

INR 750 per night per person - sharing double room
INR 650 per night per person - sharing 6-bed dormitory

The course donation includes food and accommodation and use of ashram facilities. The tuition/teaching is free of cost.

However as per tradition, students usually make ‘Gurudakshina' - a humble offering befitting to one's capacity, to the Guruparampara (the lineage who brought the knowledge to the present generation, making it available to all) represented by the main teacher of the course.

What to bring

Casual comfortable clothes, yoga mat, meditation shawl, toiletries, notebooks, pens, slip-on sandals, Warm clothing for very cool nights &  cool mornings/evenings and  clothes for warm days, rainwear, flashlight, insect repellent, alarm clock, travel mug/tumbler, water bottle, sunscreen...etc

Please note:

The balance of the course donation should be remitted on the day of joining.
Course donations are non-refundable, however any unused amount may be transferred, minus an administration fee of US$50, to another course within one year of the original course starting date. Or a credit note may be issued minus the administration fee. Credit notes are valid for one year from date of issue and can be used for any other courses/ programs or for anybody recommended by the depositor and also for boutique items or any other supplementary services.
