Yoga is a complete life. It is a method which overhauls all aspects of the human personality. It is a system of integral education, education not only of the body and the mind or the intellect, but also of the inner spirit.
In the mind there are three defects—impurity, tossing, and the veil of ignorance. The impurity should be removed through the practice of Karma Yoga. The tossing should be removed by the means of worship. The veil of ignorance should be removed by the practice of Jnana Yoga. The Yoga of Synthesis supplies the method by which the Self can be seen, loved, and served.
The Yoga of Synthesis alone will develop the head, heart, and hand, and lead one to perfection. To become harmoniously developed in all directions is the ideal. This can be achieved by the practice of the Yoga of Synthesis.
H.H. Sri Swami Sivananda
NAMARUPA is thrilled to announce a very special retreat in a sublime, secluded location on the banks of the Ganga, not far from the sacred town of Haridwar: Eight days devoted to discussing and practicing aspects of spiritual development guided by experienced, traditionally trained teachers. The retreat provides an opportunity to experience a Yoga of Synthesis, combining meditation, kirtan, asana, pranayama, and homa, and the science behind these disciplines.
We have brought together a group of inspiring teachers from a variety of disciplines. After extensive exploration, we have found an amazing locality. Aalia Resort is comfortable, quiet, and conducive to practice, yet close to an array of temples, nature reserves, and the fabulous town of Haridwar, Gateway to the abode of the Gods in the Himalayas. Beginning with an elaborate Ganesha Homa, we will follow a comprehensive daily practice and discussion schedule as well as visiting nearby temples and evening Ganga arati.
At the Yoga of Synthesis retreat we will have full days dedicated to practice and study of the deeper aspects of Jnana, Hatha, Raja, and Bhakti Yoga, with insights gleaned from the Ayurvedic tradition.
Our Retreat will begin in New Delhi where all the participants will all meet at the Railway Station to take the Shatabdi Express to Haridwar. From there it is a short distance by bus to Aalia. Although in a secluded location Aalia is well situated to many temples and places of interest in and around Haridwar and Kankhal.
The retreat at Aalia will begin with a colorful and inspiring homa to Ganesha, Lord of Beginnings, remover of obstacles and bringer of good luck.
Each day will start with early morning silent meditation, followed by Sukshma Vyayama (subtle and simple warm up exercises to get the prana flowing). After a tea break we will practice pranayama and asanas according to the Sivananda system—focusing on tuning the respiratory and nervous systems and progressing each day.
During the day, talks and discussions on Jnana and Vedanta as well as the role of Bhakti and Karma will be held. Further practice sessions in the afternoon. Evening satsangs will combine silent meditation and group chanting.
We will also schedule outings to the important temples in the area and attend Ganga arati at Har Ki Puri in Haridwar.
There will be two delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals each day.
At the conclusion of the Retreat you will be able to travel a short distance north to Rishikesh. Or further up into the Himalayas. If you are headed back to New Delhi we will take you to Haridwar railway station for the included train ride back.
